You’ll be collected from your Windhoek International Airport. Setting off in a safari vehicle with our guide, you’ll head southwest through the scenic Khomas Hochland highlands, down the Great Escarpment into the vast Namib Desert, stopping for a picnic lunch along the way. Towards mid-afternoon, you’ll arrive at your accommodation for the next two nights. Activities include exploring the Sesriem Canyon and towering red Sossusvlei dunes with your guide, enjoying sunset drives and guided walks, or simply relaxing and enjoying the tranquil desert views from the lodge.
Overnight and Dinner at Kulala Desert Lodge
Time/ Distance: 4 hr 52 min (403.2 km)
Today, we drive through Namib-Naukluft National Park to Swakopmund which is 35 km north of Walvis Bay. Afternoon reach at the hotel, you will have dinner and overnight rest. On your second day in Swakopmund, you will visit Walvis Bay and its Lagoon, rich in birdlife. Swakopmund is the “Playground Capital of Namibia” and your day is spent enjoying any one of many popular activities; ranging from a Living Desert tour to kayaking in Walvis Bay lagoon, dolphin cruises, sandboarding, quad-biking, and skydiving.
Overnight and Dinner at Hansa Hotel
Time/ Distance: 4 hr (32 min)
You will continue your journey by road for approximately 380 kilometers up the legendary Skeleton Coast. You can expect to see the fascinating lichen plains at Wlotskasbaken, the remains of the Zelia shipwreck near Henties Bay, and the SW Seal shipwreck near Ugabmund. We also take in the ghostly remains of mining operations near Toscanini. Driving time is about five hours, excluding any stops, that arrive at your lodge for overnight dinner.
Overnight and Dinner at Terrace Bay Resort
Time/ Distance: 4hr (71 km)
We continue through Skeleton Coast to the Möwe Bay Museum and then stop to admire the remains of the Suiderkus shipwreck. Other attractions are the Klein Oase and Auses Springs hidden in the dunes, an intriguing “roaring” dune, and spectacular desert scenery combined with whatever desert-adapted wildlife presents itself. The distance to the camp is only 140 kilometers / 86 miles, however, given the gravel roads, the driving time is approximately 5 hours.
A land of rugged scenery, this remote part of Namibia is inhabited by plant and animal life that has adapted superbly to the harsh environment of mountains, vast plains, dunes, and dry riverbeds.
Overnight and Dinner at Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp
Time/ Distance: 7hr (285 km)
Heading off to the northeast today, you’ll encounter diverse, dramatic Damaraland. Passing Namibia’s highest mountain, the Brandberg, you’ll be able to view wildlife and take in the vast expanse of scenery. This ancient wilderness area is characterized by incredible displays of light and color, rugged flat-topped mountains, intriguing rock formations, and odd-looking vegetation.
The next day, after early breakfast, you’ll go on an exciting 4×4 game drive to explore the river valleys and search for wildlife, including the famed desert-adapted elephant. There’s an option to stop for a picnic lunch en route and to visit the local attractions if you haven’t already done so. Once you return to camp, you may have time for a guided nature walk or to simply enjoy some well-deserved downtime.
