Lake Naivasha is in the East African Rift System. It is to the southeast of Nakuru, Kenya. Lake Naivasha is flanked by the plateau in the east and to the west is Mau Escarpment. The lake is flanked by extensive papyrus swamp. It is the highest of lakes. Its size and level fluctuate periodically, while its main tributaries are Melewa, Engare, and Gilgil rivers. Lake Naivasha has a beautiful lake and is located between Lake Nakuru rhinos and the Maasai Mara vast plains. This strategic location has made Naivasha Lake a popular stop among the Kenyan safari routes.

The Maasai tribe was originated in the Lower Nile Valley between northern Kenya and South Sudan. They migrated through the Rift Valley to Tanzania. Lake Naivasha is important for the Maasai tribe as they migrated during droughts to water their cattle. The access to water, land distribution and the other tribes struggle resulted in the lowlands settlement.

A fish population includes Crayfish, Tilapia, and Black bass existing in this lake., there is a 75 tons production annually of the commercial fishery. Lake Naivasha attracts birds in a variety such as Pelicans, Great Cormorants, Kingfishers of different kinds, and Fish Eagles. They offer for birds and fishes’ diverse habitats and it includes mammals in a variety. The lake provides water for the horticultural industry and irrigation. There are several greenhouses and flower factories using water for irrigation. It also supports geothermal power generation.

Getting to Naivasha

Flight: Transport to Naivasha is suitable by road or air. The closest airport is 63 km in Nakuru from town. Naivasha is 15 minutes flying time from Nairobi. There is private airstrips to serve charter flights.

Road: The road route is winding and scenic giving the scenic Lake Naivasha shore to watch. Driving from Nairobi takes one and half hour.

For getting around, hosts can organize boating, mountain bikes, horseback riding, and charter planes.
