Frühmorgens vor Sonnenaufgang fahren wir etwa 70 km durch die Wüste zum Sesriem-Tor. Das Tor ist bei Sonnenaufgang geöffnet. Nach der Ankunft kurzer Besuch des historischen Denkmals, eines Granitkreuzes, bekannt als das Diaz-Kreuz, das der portugiesische Seefahrer Bartholomew Diaz in den Sand der Namib schlagen ließ, als er am 25. Juli 1488 zum ersten Mal an der Küste Namibias landete. Das Kreuz, von dem man heute weiß, dass es sich um eine Nachbildung des Originals handelt, wurde 1988 errichtet.
