The waterbuck is a large antelope that resides primarily in sub-Saharan Africa. Waterbucks have a shaggy coat that ranges from a brownish-red to gray color. Its haunches have a distinctive white circle, and adult males have long, sharp horns. The waterbuck tends to graze near permanent water sources and, unlike many antelope, regularly drinks a fair amount of water. It is an herbivore that is most active during daylight hours. The gestation period for females is nine months, with one calf being the average number of offspring born at one time.
