Day 1Mfuwe Airport to South Luangwa National Park (39.3 km)

Accommodation: Luangwa River Camp

Guest will be picked up at Mfuwe airport by a driver from Mfuwe Lodge and drive for 25 minutes through the local village, over the Luangwa Bridge and into the park. You will see wildlife as soon as you near the bridge so be sure to keep your binoculars handy! Mfuwe is a charming and unique lodge situated in the South Luangwa National Park. the northern and southern Luangwa National Parks contain some of the most breath-taking and untouched wilderness in Africa. As a result of this and the parks’ successful anti-poaching campaigns, the area has developed into a world-renowned wildlife haven. The South Luangwa National Park is renowned for its walking safari, which allows visitors to view elephant, hippo and even lion close-up under the supervision of professional and knowledgeable armed guides.

Day 2South Luangwa National Park

This Morning Guest will have breakfast and go on a Game drive and will be back before lunch and in the afternoon go on a walk. Wildlife includes hippo, crocodile and over 400 species of birds, elephant and large herds of buffalo. Thornicroft’s giraffe and Cookson’s wildebeest can be spotted plus healthy populations of wild dog. The Treehouse has three main decks which are around eight feet off the ground with wooden stairways to reach the spacious sitting area and open-plan bedrooms. Each bedroom has open-air en suite bathroom facilities. Guests at the treehouse are provided with a hand-held radio, as the secluded nature of the house means that a vehicle is needed to transport you up and down from the main camp. Four adults sharing the Treehouse are guaranteed a private vehicle and safari guide

Overnight: Luangwa River Camp

The South Luangwa National Park marks the end of the Great Rift Valley, one of the last remaining unspoilt wilderness areas and possibly the finest wildlife sanctuary in Africa.

It is through this that the great meandering Luangwa river runs, with its ox bow lagoons, riverine supported woodlands and large plains, all of which play host to huge concentrations of game including elephant, buffalo, leopard, lion, giraffe, hippo and over 450 species of birds.

Luangwa River Camp sits nestled under an ancient ebony grove on the banks of the Luangwa River overlooking the game rich area known as the Luangwa Wafwa.

This small and intimate camp with just five bush suites, along with its setting and location creates a real “wow” factor and a romantic feeling simply flows through the camp.

Day 3South Luangwa National Park

Accommodation: Tena Tena, South Luangwa National Park

Guest will have breakfast and drive deeper into the park to Tena Tena. Buried deep in the exclusive Nsefu Sector of South Luangwa, this luxury safari camp is the flagship property of famed safari enthusiasts, Robin Pope Safaris, and offers an insight into a restricted section of the national park.

Day 4South Luangwa National Park

The guest will have a nice breakfast and go on a morning walk and in the afternoon on a game drive.

Overnight: Tena Tena

The South Luangwa National Park marks the end of the Great Rift Valley, one of the last remaining unspoiled wilderness areas and possibly the finest wildlife sanctuary in Africa – a claim which is not an overstatement.

It is through this 9050sq kilometer National Park that the great meandering Luangwa River runs, with its oxbow lagoons, tributaries, riverine supported woodlands and large plains, all of which play host to huge concentrations of game including elephant, buffalo, leopard, lion, giraffe, hippo and over 450 species of birds.

Situated in the exclusive Nsefu Sector Tena Tena sits nestled under a magnificent and thick grove of mahogany trees. On a double tiered river bank, each room enjoys its own private view onto a long stretch of the Luangwa River.

Tena Tena is synonymous with Robin Pope Safaris as it was the first camp that Robin opened and ran and has become a favorite amongst many safari lovers over the years.

Day 5Mfuwe to Lower Zambezi

Accommodation: Potato Bush Camp

Guest will freshen up this morning and be Leaving to South Luangwa, you’ll take a domestic flight from Mfuwe to Jeki via Lusaka, followed by a private transfer to Lower Zambezi National Park. You’ll stay at the five-star Potato Bush Camp, a luxury safari property comprised of just three spacious tents, complete with private plunge pools. After sunset, take a night game drive to see nocturnal wildlife such as African wildcats, genets, civets, honey badgers, porcupines and maybe even the rare pangolin.

 

Day 6 Lower Zambezi

Accommodation: Potato Bush Camp

This Morning Guest will have breakfast and Enjoy the Zambezi River on your doorstep with canoe safaris, boat trips, fishing excursions and sunset river cruises. With “floating sundowners” you can relax on the deck of the boat, gin and tonic in hand, watching bathing pods of hippos and looking out for lurking crocodiles. You might even see elephants splashing in the waters or crossing the river to Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools on the other side. Don’t miss the chance to explore the Lower Zambezi region on foot as part of an intrepid walking safari. Once you leave the safety of the vehicle, everything changes and you’ll be treated to wildlife watching and safari experience you can’t get from the backseat of a jeep. Discover the tiny lizards and insects which also call the park home, learn about plant life and ecosystems, then examine tracks and scat to understand how rangers track wildlife.

Day 7 Potato Bush Camp, Lower Zambezi National Park

This day doesn’t miss the chance to explore the Lower Zambezi region on foot as part of an intrepid walking safari. Once you leave the safety of the vehicle, everything changes, and you’ll be treated to wildlife watching and safari experience you can’t get from the backseat of a jeep. Discover the tiny lizards and insects which also call the park home, learn about plant life and ecosystems, then examine tracks and scat to understand how rangers track wildlife.

Overnight: Potato Bush Camp

The Camp consists of 3 Luxury Safari Tents and 1 Two-bedroom Family Tent. The 3 Luxury Tents are extremely spacious and have en-suite bathrooms with twin showers, twin basins and a full-size four-claw bath tub. Large Rosewood folding doors lead onto the balcony which hosts a 2-person hammock and a private plunge pool. With raised walkways all around camp, Potato Bush Camp is perfect for Family or group bookings looking to have a private escape.

Day 8Lower Zamia to Mfuwe Airport

This is the last day of the tour and the guest will just have breakfast and be transferred back to Mfuwe airport at a time to be confirmed. You could arrange to visit Tribal Textiles and other shops on the way to the airport, to pick up a few locally made gifts and memorabilia.
