Twyfelfontein ist berühmt für seine vielen Felsmalereien und Felsgravuren (Petroglyphen) der San (Buschmänner), von denen 2500 gezählt wurden. Angaben zum Alter der Gravuren schwanken, es wird jedoch ein Zeitraum von 1000 – 10000 Jahren angegeben. Bemerkenswert ist, dass die Gravuren ohne den Einsatz von Metallwerkzeugen angefertigt wurden. Es wird angenommen, dass stattdessen Quarzwerkzeuge verwendet wurden, da hier viele Quarzsplitter gefunden wurden.
