You'll be collected from Windhoek International Airport. Setting off in a safari vehicle with your private guide, you'll head southwest through the scenic Khomas Hochland highlands, down the Great Escarpment into the vast Namib Desert, stopping for a picnic lunch along the way. Day 2: Sossuvlei / Sesriem Area

Get up early, you'll head for the Namib Naukluft National Park with your guide before sunrise to see the dunes in the soft, shadowy morning light. These are some of the highest free-standing dunes in the world. Our guide will share insights on how this desert was formed and how the incredible variety of curious creatures, plants, and wildlife have adapted to these fierce conditions. You'll enjoy a picnic brunch under a shady camel-thorn tree with the option to explore Dune 45, Elim Dune, Sossusvlei, and Dead Vlei. You'll return to the lodge for a late lunch. If you haven't already managed it, a trip to Sesriem Canyon is on the agenda, or enjoy some leisure time at the lodge.

Passing through coastal Walvis Bay, you'll continue northwards to Swakopmund, a popular German colonial-style seaside resort that enjoys cooler coastal air. You'll have time to explore the town and waterfront before dinner at a popular local seafood restaurant. A centrally-located guesthouse in Swakopmund will be your accommodation for the next two nights.

You'll also take a short drive to Pelican Point and its lighthouse. Light refreshments will be enjoyed on the beach. If you prefer, you may opt for a motorized boat trip instead of kayaking, or savor snacks of fresh oysters washed down with local sparkling wine!

DAY 6: Brandberg to Kamanjab

Time/ Distance: 2 hr 57 min (231.1 km)

This morning we travel to the town of Kamanjab, stopping to see the Petrified Forest - a collection of fossilized trees that turned into stone 260 million years ago. We also view the strange Welwitschia plants, the oldest plants in the world, in this area. In the afternoon we visit a Himba village, to experience the last traditional tribe of Namibia. The Ova-Himba tribe still practices some of its old rituals and wears traditional dress, which makes for an interesting cultural encounter.

DAY 7: Kamanjab to Etosha National Park

Time/ Distance: 1 hr 54 min (109.1 km)

Day seven sees us driving to Etosha National Park, Namibia's premier safari destination. Etosha Park incorporates some 22 270 km² of wilderness, dominated by the Etosha Pan which gives the reserve its name. The salt pan spans an area of about 4760 km² creating a vast expanse of arid plains which come to life after the rains. The name Etosha is an apt description translating as 'Great White Place'.

This afternoon we enter Etosha and embark on the first game drive of our Private Namibia Safari. Keep an eye out for the surprising abundance of animals found in Etosha, including elephants, lions, rhinos, and all kinds of antelopes. We overnight at Okaukuejo or Halali camp, both of which have floodlit waterholes for 24-hour game viewing.

DAY 8: Etosha National Park Area

Game viewing in Etosha National Park is extremely rewarding. Home to 114 mammals and over 340 bird species, you have every chance of seeing elephant, lion, giraffe, wildebeest, eland, kudu, gemsbok (oryx), zebra, cheetah, leopard, hyena, honey badger, and warthog, along with the endangered, endemic black-faced impala. Etosha is perhaps most famous for its salt pan which is so large it is visible from space and its waterholes, each one different from the other, drawing wildlife that varies from season to season.

DAY 9: Etosha National Park to Waterberg Plateau

Time/ Distance: 2 hr 54 min (278.7 km)

After a warm breakfast, we continue to our last destination. Waterberg Plateau is situated 350km north of Namibia's capital city Windhoek, and the 41,000ha of surrounding land was declared a Nature Reserve in 1972. We will do short hiking up to the top of the plateau with our guide. Most of the plateau is inaccessible and a number of the country's endangered species were introduced to protect them from predators and poaching. This program was a huge success and Waterberg now supplies other Namibian parks with rare animals.
